NORTH TEXAS WEATHER UPDATE — TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15
Good morning, everyone! I hope you had a great Monday.
Yesterday, we reached 100 degrees right on the button at DFW Airport, marking our 50th triple-digit temperature of the year. The average is just 17 days, and records here in North Texas only go back to the late 1800s. Needless to say, this has been an exceptionally hot year.
High pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere will continue to dominate our weather through the upcoming weekend, keeping things hot and mostly dry across North Texas.
TODAY:
Sunny, hot, and breezy, with afternoon highs near 100 degrees. The record high for today is 100, set in 1965 and 1980. With the combination of heat, dry vegetation, and gusty winds, we also have an increased fire danger. Please be extremely careful with anything that could spark a grass fire.
Tonight will be clear and warm, with lows near 80 degrees. Winds should gradually relax.
WEDNESDAY:
Plenty of sunshine with another high near 100 degrees. The record high is 102. Winds will be lighter, which should help reduce the grass fire danger somewhat.
THURSDAY:
Sunny and hot, with a high near 99 degrees. The record high is 99.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY:
You guessed it—more sunshine and more heat. Afternoon highs will climb into the upper 90s, with little or no chance of rain.
SUNDAY:
We will remain hot, with highs in the upper 90s. However, clouds may begin increasing late in the afternoon as a weak cold front approaches the area.
SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY:
There is a possibility that a weak cold front could move into North Texas, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms late Sunday evening into the first half of Monday.
I will be taking a closer look at the timing and coverage of those storms, along with whether the front will actually push through the area. If it does, we could see Monday's temperatures near 90 degrees.
That would certainly be a welcome change, although our average high by then will be around 88 degrees, so we would still be running above average.
