Good morning, everyone! I hope you had a great Tuesday. We’re back to Wednesday, and more kids are heading back to school today. Make sure they’re dressed appropriately for the heat. If you’re taking the younger ones with you while running errands, especially if they’ll be with you all day, try to beat the heat whenever possible. And please, always check the back seat before leaving your vehicle.
Heat Advisories are gone for now, but the heat will continue across North Texas through the rest of the week, into the weekend, and likely beyond. Heat Advisories will most likely return by the weekend as temperatures and heat indices climb once again.
A bubble of high pressure continues to dominate our weather, and unfortunately, there are no major changes in sight. Yesterday, DFW Airport reached 101 degrees, giving us our 18th triple-digit day of the year. We could easily add another seven to ten triple-digit days before this stretch of heat finally comes to an end. The average number of 100-degree days since 1991 is around 20.
Unfortunately, rain is also becoming a major concern. There is essentially no rain in the forecast for the next several days, and possibly longer. As wind speeds increase later this week, the grass fire danger will also increase across North Texas, especially west of Interstate 35 and farther west through the Big Country, South Plains, and Texas Panhandle.
Drought conditions are also worse across much of that region, and without meaningful rainfall in the foreseeable future, the fire danger will continue to increase.
So please take care of yourself during this extended heat wave. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and take frequent breaks if you’re working outdoors. Don’t forget about your pets. Make sure they have plenty of water and a cool place to stay. And check on elderly family members, friends, and neighbors.
It looks like more of the same for at least the next seven days and most likely longer.
