Good morning, everyone! Welcome to Wednesday and welcome to another day of relentless heat across North Texas. The heat wave will continue for the foreseeable future, although a weak cold front may drop temperatures by a degree or two Saturday.
We reached 106° yesterday, and I'm forecasting another 106° on Friday, which would tie our record high for the date.
A weak cold front should move into North Texas late Friday afternoon and evening. A few of you, especially around DFW and points south, could see a late-day shower or thunderstorm. The main threats will be strong, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and brief heavy downpours. Areas farther north toward the Red River will likely remain completely dry.
High pressure moves back overhead this weekend and should remain in control through much of next week. That sinking air will continue to compress and warm the atmosphere, keeping the heat going.
Even with temperatures potentially a degree or two cooler Saturday, Monday and Tuesday could bring another round of triple-digit heat, adding to our growing triple-digit count.
Please take the heat seriously. When getting out of your vehicle, look before you lock, stay hydrated, and take frequent breaks if you're working outdoors. And don't forget to check on elderly family members, neighbors, and pets.
I'm Meteorologist Dan Brounoff in the KRLD Weather Center. Hope you have a great Wednesday, and please enjoy the weather when you can. It's the only weather you've got!
