Quiet weather continues across North Texas, and honestly… it’s almost suspiciously quiet. A large bubble of high pressure is setting up over the region and plans to squat over us through the rest of the week and into the weekend. That means lots of sunshine, very few clouds, and temperatures slowly turning the thermostat higher each day. No record heat is expected, but Mother Nature is definitely reaching over and nudging the “summer preview” button.
Good morning my friends, and welcome to Tuesday! We’re waking up to clear skies, a beautiful crescent moon rising in the eastern sky, and temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. About as pleasant as North Texas can be before the atmosphere remembers it’s May.
This afternoon will feature wall-to-wall sunshine with highs in the low to mid 80s. Tomorrow warms into the upper 80s, and by Thursday through the weekend we’ll be flirting with 90°. Some areas west of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex may even sneak into the low to mid 90s. Summer is standing outside knocking on the door… and unfortunately, it knows where we live.
Winds stay fairly light today and tomorrow out of the south, but they’ll crank up Thursday into the weekend with gusts between 15 and 30 mph. That stronger south wind will start hauling Gulf moisture back north, which means the humidity will slowly return. Enjoy the good hair days while you still can.
Now, we’ll have the heat and moisture needed for storms by the weekend, but we’ll be missing one important ingredient: a trigger. Late Saturday, a dryline out west may try to spark a few storms, but most of those should weaken before reaching North Texas thanks to a strong “cap” in the atmosphere — basically Mother Nature putting a lid on the crockpot.
Things may become a little more interesting late Sunday into early next week as weak disturbances move through the weak subtropical jet stream. Storms are expected to develop west of us Sunday, Monday and Tuesday afternoons, and there’s a better chance some of those storms could drift into North Texas during the evening hours. Since it is severe weather season, we’ll keep an eye on the possibility of a few strong to severe storms.
Until then, enjoy this fantastic stretch of weather while you can. Open the windows, wash the car, grill something expensive… just don’t blame me when the pollen immediately claims ownership of it.
Have a great day and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got!
