High pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere will continue to build over North Texas during the next several days, and that means temperatures will slowly climb. Heat Advisories are back in effect today, and it looks like they’ll likely continue through the rest of the week and into the weekend.
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Tuesday! I hope everyone had a great first day back at school yesterday! And for those of you in Dallas, Irving, Plano, Prosper and many more, today is the big day as students head back to the classroom.
Temperatures this morning are hovering in the upper 70s to low 80s. There’s NO rain on the radar and honestly, there aren’t many clouds in the sky either.
Yesterday, DFW topped out at 99° , breaking our streak of 100°+ temperatures for the first time in more than a week. That changes today! We’re expecting a high right around 100° with a Heat Ad
That means heat index values will climb into the 105° to 109° range. Please take those heat precautions seriously, especially if you’ll be working or spending extended time outside.
And this pattern looks like it’s going to stick around. We’re looking at around 101° tomorrow, then possibly 102° Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 103 on Sunday and Monday. Heat Advisories could continue through much of the week and into the weekend.
Rain? Well, there’s not much to talk about. A couple of late-day showers could develop about 100 miles south and southeast of the Dallas-Fort Worth area today, but even those chances are pretty slim. After today, even those tiny rain chances shut down.
Unfortunately, our rainfall deficit continues to slowly climb. We’re now close to a half-inch below average for this time of year, and if this pattern continues, the drought situation will likely worsen over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, we can get some meaningful rain by September!
The drought is already getting worse across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains, and with winds picking up and gusts of 25 to 30 mph possible—not only here in North Texas but especially west of us—the dry conditions are increasing the grass-fire danger throughout the week.
