One more day of severe weather before we dry out

North Texas Forecast for May 19, 2025
National Weather Service

Severe weather occurred yesterday evening west of Fort Worth and in Wise, Denton and Collin counties. A similar scenario is expected to unfold later this afternoon through the evening hours, primarily along and north of Interstate 20 and east of Highway 281. A 40% coverage area is anticipated for strong to severe storms.

Good morning. Welcome back to work. Following a stormy night, more storms are expected later this afternoon through the evening hours, with all modes of severe weather possible. A watch will likely be issued for the northern half of North Texas, mainly along and north of Interstate 20, late this afternoon and evening. The timeframe to watch is between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. across the DFW, although many areas will not experience rainfall. These storms will not be widespread, instead being few and far between. Currently, the worst of the weather appears to be in the eastern half of Oklahoma, with a level four out of five moderate chance for severe weather development.

There will be some scattered showers and storms forming anywhere across north Texas after the noon hour. Afternoon highs today will reach the upper 80s. Severe weather activity will conclude across North Texas by 9:00 p.m. this evening.

By tomorrow morning, a cold front will be moving in from the northwest, leading to clearing skies, dropping humidity, and afternoon highs reaching only 80 degrees. This pleasant weather will persist into Wednesday, with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

Another cold front is expected to move in on Thursday, although its movement is uncertain at this time. It may stall just north of DFW. This front may bring severe storms, depending on its trajectory.

The upcoming holiday weekend is expected to bring hot temperatures on Saturday, with highs in the low 90s. Showers and storms may return to the forecast for Sunday and Memorial Day, with some potentially severe. Stay tuned for updates. Have a great day today and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got.
