Tornado Watch expires across North Texas Monday night

Showers and storms, some severe, could arrive in North Texas Monday afternoon

Monday forecast
National Weather Service

Tornado Watches and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings issued across many North Texas counties were allowed to expire by 8 p.m. on Monday. Most parts of the area experienced just localized heavy rain.

Monday began with cloudy and windy conditions, and temperatures in the low to mid-70s with a ton of humidity.

A strong storm system in the upper levels of the atmosphere cruised through New Mexico on Monday morning. As it shoots northeast into western Oklahoma, it will drag a dryline and eventually a cold front into the area through the evening hours. This coupled with plenty of surface moisture and daytime heating will produce widespread shower and thunderstorm activity across North Texas from late morning to afternoon.

As a day wears on, this area showers and storms will intensify, especially along and east of a McKinney to Dallas to Waxahachie line. These are the areas that have the greatest chance for large hail, damaging wind, and isolated tornadoes.

The cold front will sweep through Monday night, but the last of the upper-level disturbances will be tracking close to North Texas. This will produce more scattered showers and maybe a rumble of thunder through the early morning hours. Nothing severe is expected.

Tuesday morning will begin with a few showers and cloudy and breezy conditions. Temperatures will have fallen into the upper 40s to mid-50s. Skies will clear through the late morning, giving way to a beautifully cool day. Afternoon highs will only reach the mid to upper 60s with lowering humidity.

Widespread 40s and 50s will greet you out the door on Wednesday morning. Sunny and seasonable weather will continue. Afternoon highs will touch the 70-degree mark.

Our next weather maker will arrive Thursday into Friday as another cold front will sag into the area and stall to our south. Another upper-level disturbance will slowly cross over the area. This will produce scattered showers and isolated nonsevere thunderstorms off and on through the period. Due to the clouds around, temperatures will remain on the cool side. Mid-60s for Thursday and Friday. 50s in the rain.

As of now, the weekend looks good with plenty of sunshine and cool conditions. Low 60s for Saturday, near 70 for Sunday.
