The hottest week of the summer so far is going to impact North Texas, with temperatures well above 100 degrees. Heat Advisories will likely continue through most of the week, with temperatures potentially a few degrees cooler by the upcoming weekend. There is also a very slight chance of rain late Friday.
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to a new work and school week. Temperatures this morning are right around where they have been for the past week or two, generally in the low 80s. However, we will continue to see temperatures fall a few more degrees before sunrise, with many areas dropping into the 70s.
One noticeable difference this morning is the humidity. It is much lower than what we have been experiencing during the early morning hours recently.
Heat Advisories are in place again today, with heat index values expected to climb slightly above 105 degrees. However, thanks to the drier air and dew points in the upper 40s to low 50s, even though temperatures could reach around 106 degrees at DFW Airport, it may only feel like 103 degrees.
I know that may not sound like much of a difference, but make no mistake, this is still dangerous heat.
Please check on the elderly, make sure pets have a cool place to stay during the hottest part of the day, and remember to beat the heat. Always check the back seat for children before leaving your vehicle, and most importantly, stay hydrated, especially if you are working outdoors.
This intense heat will continue through the rest of the week, with afternoon highs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday remaining well above 100 degrees. Most of us will stay dry, but temperatures will likely remain above 104 degrees.
We may see a slight decrease in temperatures Friday, with highs around 101 degrees, followed by temperatures near 102 degrees Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be any real break from the heat through the rest of the month.
This weather pattern is going to continue dominating our forecast. We are getting closer and closer to fall, but it is still several weeks away.
Hopefully, the strong El Niño this fall and winter will bring more precipitation to the region. If we see increased cloud cover and precipitation, temperatures could average a little below normal. We'll see what happens.
In the meantime, stay cool, my friends, and have a great day today.
