High pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere will gradually build across North Texas as we move through the week. That will allow temperatures to slowly climb.
There’s nothing on radar this morning, and we’re waking up to temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 70s, with some areas near 80 degrees.
Yesterday, we reached 100 degrees at DFW Airport. That broke our streak of six consecutive days at exactly 101 degrees. The highest heat index I saw over the weekend was 104 degrees.
Remember, 105 to 109 degrees is generally the threshold for a heat advisory across North Texas. This morning, those advisories are just north of us, covering much of Oklahoma and parts of Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas.
The rainfall deficit continues to grow. North Texas is now less than a quarter-inch below average for the year, and every dry day adds another five to six hundredths of an inch to that deficit.
We’re also approaching 30 days without measurable rainfall at DFW Airport.
So far this year, we’ve recorded 17 days with temperatures of 100 degrees or higher. If you go all the way back to 1898, when records were first kept, the average number of triple-digit days during a summer is around 17. Looking at the more recent 1991–2020 climate normals, that average is a little higher.
And unfortunately, the triple digits continue.

There is a slight chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm today and tomorrow, mainly southeast of DFW, but most of North Texas will remain hot and dry.
