Above-average temperatures, record-breaking heat, and a threat for strong and severe thunderstorms are anticipated. There is a significant amount to discuss, and I will provide your 7-day forecast today.

Good morning. I hope you're having a pleasant Tuesday. We're experiencing a comfortable start across North Texas, with temperatures ranging from the low to mid-60s, which is near average for this time of year. It will be sunny and warm, with afternoon highs reaching the low to mid-90s. The average high temperature is 83°F.

A strong ridge of high pressure, unusual for this time of year, will move out of northern Mexico and build across Texas over the next several days. Consequently, temperature records will be broken tomorrow across many reporting stations in the state. Our record high temperature tomorrow is 95°F, and I'm forecasting a high of 98°F at DFW Airport. It will be even hotter to the south and southwest of DFW, with temperatures easily exceeding 100°F.

Although North Texas will not bear the brunt of this heatwave, areas in the southern half of the state will. A weak cold front will attempt to move south of DFW on Thursday, dropping temperatures into the upper 80s to low 90s. Unfortunately, this front will not bring any rain to our area.

The slightly cooler air will be short-lived, as the front will lift back to the north on Friday and over the weekend. This will allow southerly winds to pick up, increasing surface moisture from the Gulf. Additionally, temperatures will rise again to the mid-90s. These temperatures will persist through the weekend and into early next week.

With the heat and surface moisture in place, the dry line will surge eastward out of West Texas during the late afternoon hours. A series of upper-level disturbances will cross the area on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. This could lead to some issues across North Texas during the late afternoon and evening. Scattered showers and thunderstorms, some severe, will develop about 60 miles west of DFW. Some of these storms may contain large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes. I will monitor this situation closely each day. If necessary, we will activate KRLD's Storm Center team coverage if warnings are issued across the area. Please stay tuned for updates.

In the meantime, remember to stay cool, hydrated, and enjoy the weather when you can, it's the only weather you've got.
