Flash flood warnings, flood watches, extremely heavy rainfall, intense lightning, and record-breaking rainfall already reported at DFW Airport. It's shaping up to be a tumultuous Thursday.

A significant storm system is impacting the region, with 1.42 inches of rain recorded at DFW as of 4:45 a.m., surpassing the daily rainfall record. And, this milestone has been achieved before sunrise.

A flood watch remains in effect throughout the day, accompanied by a flash flood warning for Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, and Denton counties until 6:45 a.m. Numerous areas have received over 3 inches of rain since midnight. Fortunately, the initial wave of rain is expected to clear in time for the morning commute. However, please remain vigilant, as another area of heavy rain is developing approximately 150 miles west of Fort Worth, near Abilene.

This system will move across North Texas by late morning, potentially adding an additional inch of rainfall. It's essential to note that many areas, particularly southeast of Dallas and Fort Worth, have yet to experience significant rain. This will change by later this afternoon and evening as the entire system gradually moves across the region.

I anticipate a few storm warnings may be issued for areas south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where temperatures will rise, leading to potential hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes. An additional 1-4 inches of rain is possible across North Texas before the system moves east after midnight tonight. Areas SE of DFW will see one more round of storms Friday morning.

Please exercise caution and allow extra time for travel throughout the day, as the evening commute is expected to be particularly hazardous. Temperatures will remain steady in the low 70s throughout the day.

A brief respite in the weather is anticipated on Friday and Saturday, with pleasant temperatures and sunshine. Mid-70s are expected on Friday, with temperatures near 70 on Saturday and increasing cloudiness by evening.

Our next weather system will impact the area during the second half of Sunday and early Monday, bringing more heavy rain. While it's too early to predict exact rainfall totals or potential severity, it's certain that rain will return. By next Tuesday, DFW Airport will have a substantial rainfall surplus.

Beautiful weather will return on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs near 70 on Tuesday and near 60 on Wednesday. Even colder temperatures are expected Thanksgiving week, with two cold fronts impacting the area. These fronts will not bring precipitation but will lead to the first freeze in areas after Thanksgiving, with afternoon highs potentially not exceeding the 40s next Friday. Please prioritize your safety and take advantage of favorable weather conditions when possible, as it's the only weather you've got!
