What parts of North Texas saw some welcome, healthy rainfall totals yesterday, while others didn’t see a drop? At my house in East Frisco, unfortunately, we missed out completely.
And DFW Airport also missed the rain, marking the 57th consecutive day with no measurable rainfall.
We officially hit 100° yesterday, bringing us to 47 days of triple-digit heat this year.
You might get a little bit of a break today, with afternoon highs in the upper 90s. But after that, the triple-digit heat returns.
High pressure in the upper levels will regain control, deflecting any cold fronts away from North Texas and keeping our rain chances pretty much at zero. Unfortunately, that looks to continue not only through the weekend, but through most of next week.
Good morning, my friends! We’re waking up to temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 70s. Afternoon highs today will climb back into the upper 90s. There is a very slight chance for a shower or storm, but honestly, it’s doubtful.
This weekend, we’ll be back close to 100°. South winds will begin picking up Sunday, with wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph possible. Those stronger winds, combined with the continued heat and dry conditions, will increase our grass fire danger.
Most of next week looks hot and dry, with daytime highs close to 100° each day and morning lows in the 75° to 80° range.
I’ll be keeping an eye on the possibility of a cold front moving into North Texas toward the following weekend. If that happens, temperatures will drop and our rain chances should increase.
We’re also seeing a strong El Niño really beginning to take shape across the eastern Pacific. Typically, as we move deeper into the fall, the active storm track begins to get going, including the southern subtropical jet stream. That pattern can have a significant impact on our weather, potentially bringing more rain and cooler temperatures.
We’ll see how it all pans out.
