LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man who allegedly attacked a woman and stabbed a man in the East Hollywood area Tuesday was shot and wounded by police, authorities said.
Officers were sent to Beverly Boulevard and Vermont Avenue at about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
The suspect shot by police allegedly had been involved in an altercation with a woman on a Metro transit platform that left the woman injured.
When another man tried to intervene, the suspect allegedly "brandished a knife" at him and fled, and as the suspect was fleeing, he allegedly stabbed another man, police said.
"LAPD Transit Services officers were notified, and were directed to the suspect attempting to leave the area northbound on Vermont Avenue," police said.
The officers confronted the suspect in the 300 block of North Vermont Avenue, police said. "The suspect produced a knife, and an OIS (officer- involved shooting) occurred," police said.
Paramedics rushed the stabbing victim and the suspect to a hospital. The suspect was listed in stable condition, police said. The condition of the stabbing victim was not known.
No officers were hurt.
The suspect's name was not immediately released. A knife was recovered by authorities and the investigation was continuing, police said.
Metro B (Red) Line trains bypassed the Vermont/Beverly Station due to the police response in the area, according to the transit agency.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, two patients were taken to hospitals from the scene -- one of them a stabbing patient and the other a shooting patient. It was unclear if either of the patients is an officer, however, a large contingent of LAPD officers quickly amassed at the scene.
There was no immediate word on the condition of either patient.
