Three suspects pulled over for a stop sign violation in Santa Monica were later booked on suspicion of grand theft, conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said Wednesday.

Patrol officers stopped a vehicle early Monday at the intersection of 12th Street and Montana Avenue, where they discovered a methamphetamine pipe on the driver's side floorboard, along with 500 feet of copper wire in the backseat, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Three suspects were arrested and have since been released, according to police, who added that the investigation remains ongoing.

"Maintaining the street-lighting infrastructure is critical to the safe operation of roads and walkways throughout the City," the SMPD said.

Anyone with information regarding suspicious electrical equipment activity was urged to contact SMPD Dispatch at 310-458-8491, or 911.
