The Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education voted on the approval of stipulated agreements of expulsion of the five students.

It comes after school officials revealed on Thursday that 16 eighth-grade students were victims of the photos.

The names of the students have not been publicly released, but they were students at Beverly Vista Middle School, according to the L.A. Times. Superintendent Michael Bregy wrote that officials were “limited in the details” they could share regarding disciplinary actions.

According to CBS News, students reported the photos to school officials last month. It was then addressed at a district board meeting.

“Clearly, as a teacher and former educator, this has just shaken the foundation of trust and safety that we work with every day to create for all of our students,” Dr.
Bregy said.

In the same meeting, board member Rachelle Marcus urged parents to protect their children from technology.

“Now more than ever, we the parents have to take stronger control of what our students are doing with their phones and that's where I think we are failing completely,” she said.

The Beverly Hills Police Department is still investigating the incident.
