LOS ANGELES (KNX) - As the writers’ strike enters its second day, many showrunners are expressing their support for their fellow guild members.
One of those people is Justin Halpern, the Executive Producer and co-showrunner for the critically acclaimed show "Abbott Elementary.”
“I just know that all of us want to get back to work,” he told LA Morning News. “We wanna write, but we want to do it under a fair deal and until that happens, the greatest power we have is to withhold our labor.”
Halpern noted that the show’s co-runner and star, Quinta Brunson, is an advocate for the writers on the show.
“Quinta is a WGA member and I've personally seen Quinta fight incredibly hard for all of our writers to get great a deal,” he said. “We’re in a privileged situation on ‘Abbott’. We're a hit show and we have a creator and co-showrunner and Quinta who fights for writers. She's a tireless advocate for us. So we're in a great position, but being in a guild means sticking up for the most vulnerable people in that guild.”
Halpern said that while he and the other writers love the show and hold themselves to a high standard, it is time for the writers to be fairly paid.
