According to a press release, the 10-track offering set for release on Friday, October 21, was recorded at Butley Priory in Suffolk, RAK Studios in London, and La Frette in Paris -- and finds Arctic Monkeys "running wild in a new and sumptuous musical landscape and contains some of the richest and most rewarding vocal performances of [frontman] Alex Turner‘s career."

In his first interview regarding the upcoming album, Alex tells Big Issue, "I think we've got closer to a better version of a more dynamic overall sound with this record. The strings on this record come in and out of focus and that was a deliberate move and hopefully everything has its own space. There’s time the band comes to the front and then the strings come to the front."

"It's a response I've had to other things we’ve composed," Turner adds. "This idea of something sounding 'cinematic.' I never completely subscribe to it, but it’s louder this time." Additionally, Turner says the band has returned “back to earth” following their spacey trip on Tranquility Base...: "On this record sci-fi is off the table."

Aside from The Car being made available on standard streaming, vinyl, CD, and cassette formats, fans will be able to pick up a deluxe edition of the new record on limited-edition grey vinyl via Arctic Monkeys’ official web store, as well as a custard colored version that will be available at indie record shops and HMV stores. Also, new album-themed merch like hats, tees, and more are now available. Check out the official track listing and cover art (photographed by drummer Matt Helders) below.
