Arizona man arrested in Blythe pleads not guilty to possession charges

A 51-year-old man arrested in Blythe pleaded not guilty Wednesday to numerous weapons and drug charges.

Alejandro Rojas Rodriguez of Yuma, Arizona entered not guilty pleas to felony counts of possessing a controlled substance while armed, owning a firearm as a previous convict and owning ammunition while being banned from owning firearm, as well as a misdemeanor for possession of a controlled substance, according to case records.

The defendant is scheduled for a felony settlement conference at the Blythe Courthouse on Dec. 3.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Colorado River station observed possible criminal activity while "conducting proactive policing" in the 2200 block of E. Donlon Street around 7:15 a.m. Sunday, the department said.

They contacted a man identified as Rodriguez, who allegedly was found in possession of a loaded firearm and approximately 220 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

According to deputies, Rodriguez is a convicted felon, prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. Specific information on Rodriguez's conviction history was not available.

He was arrested and booked into the Blythe Jail.
