Suspect barricaded in Walnut Park after vehicle chase arrested

An armed man barricaded himself in a residential area of Walnut Park Friday at the end of a pursuit, prompting a SWAT-style response from Special Enforcement Bureau deputies.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the situation began about 7:30 a.m. Friday with a vehicle pursuit of two suspects.

The chase ended in the 2800 block of Broadway, east of South Alameda Street, in the unincorporated Walnut Park area.

One suspect was caught and the other, who was armed, barricaded himself, prompting deputies to call in crisis negotiators and an SEB team.

The suspect was taken into custody about 9:45 a.m., according to the sheriff's department.

It was not immediately clear what touched off the initial chase.
