LISTEN NOW: boygenius shares how they prioritize their mental health

The group’s Phoebe BridgersLucy Dacus, and Julien Baker recently sat down with Audacy’s Kevan Kenney and shared some of their own best practices and beliefs when it comes to their mental heath.

“I think destigmatizing talking about your brain is good,” said Dacus. “I think everybody’s struggle would be less of a struggle if we could relate to each other more.”

Along the same lines, bandmate Julien Baker shared simply “taking advice” from others who have walked through similar seasons and challenges can help tremendously.

Phoebe Bridgers shared she has a tattoo that spells out "Drink Water" as a reminder to take care of herself. Dacus also has ink dedicated to her well-being.

“I actually have a tattoo of the letter ‘B’ to remind me to breathe, beverage (like, drink water), body (like, change my outfit or lay down), bed (go to sleep), buddy (talk to a friend), brain (stop looking at the internet) [and] belly (eat food).”

In addition to the above, the trio all shared music is a large part of keeping a positive mental health space and assisting them in sorting out emotions. “I feel like I listen to music in a helpful way and write music in a helpful way,” explained Dacus. “Writing music is the main way I find out what I think. It’s a way to talk to myself and I recommend that to anybody.”
