Thieves allegedly created a tunnel using a sledgehammer to break into a Chatsworth jewelry store around 2 a.m. on Monday.
KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian reported that the thieves left a mess at stores nearby at Topanga Canyon Plaza. Sarah Shafik, the owner of Sarah’s Super Salon, said the thieves left several holes in her shop while attempting to break into the neighbor’s store.
“I want them to know they are stupid because they made a hole in the wall instead of just opening the door,” she said.
Shafik said the thieves broke into three businesses. They fled empty-handed after they found the jewelry store owner inside the shop and a panic alarm was activated.

Police said at least two suspects got away.
Shafik said she’s grateful the thieves didn’t reach their goal of stealing products from the Denny Lesser jewelry store.
