The city of Los Angeles' city-run vaccination sites will offer 55,000 first dose appointments this week, the Mayor of LA announced Monday.

It is also the one-year anniversary since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down non-essential businesses and the LA City Hall will be lit red in honor of those who have died from the virus Monday night.

Garcetti recalled the closed shops and empty streets Monday night during an address.

"It's not been an easy year, we all know that, for anyone. We have had to stumble through this darkness together," he says.

He remembered how Angelenos went door to door to help seniors with food delivery last year.

"We saw that spirit and we matched it with policy. We were the first to issue a moratorium on evictions to keep people housed. The first big city to offer testing to all of its residents and all of its residents with or without symptoms," Garcetti says.

The city is expected to receive about 55,000 Moderna vaccine doses. Existing doses will be given at the city run sites.

Another delivery of 7,000 doses from Pfizer will be administered through the City’s Mobile Outreach for Vaccine Equity (MOVE) program. The eight mobile teams will be deployed to Pico-Union, Van Nuys, Sunland/Tujunga, Vermont Square, Koreatown, Boyle Heights, and Chinatown. More doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are also expected in April.

On Monday, the state and LA County opened up eligibility for those ages 16 to 64 with underlying health conditions and disabilities. MORE INFO ON CONDITIONS HERE.

Also this week, LA County and OC moved into the red tier and LA County lifted restrictions on dining, gyms and movie theaters Monday.

“Hope is on the horizon, but we can only end this pandemic if Angelenos are vigilant, keep following public health guidelines, and get vaccinated when it’s their turn,” said Mayor Garcetti in a press release. “Every vaccine being offered is safe, effective, and proven to protect us from severe illness, hospitalization, and death — and as we get more doses into people’s arms this week, we move even closer to defeating COVID-19 in Los Angeles.”

Vaccines will be administered across the seven permanent and eight mobile vaccination sites. The permanent sites will be open this week from Tuesday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dodger Stadium will operate between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The City’s Carbon Health appointment portal will be updated with the additional groups by Monday. First dose appointments are available online at Coronavirus.LACity.org/VaxAppointment

SECOND DOSE INFO:

City sites will offer second dose appointments this week for Angelenos who received their first dose between February 16 and February 22. Second dose patients should have received notifications with their appointment details last week.
