LOS ANGELES (KNX) — One week after nominees were announced, the Critics Choice Awards are reportedly pivoting for safety amid the pandemic.

The Critics Choice Association’s decision was shared Wednesday by The Hollywood Reporter, as a large number of COVID-19 cases was reported in Los Angeles, where the awards show was set to be held on Jan. 9. No formal notice has yet been shared by the association.

Postponing the 27th annual ceremony was “the prudent and responsible decision at this point,” according to a statement shared by the magazine.

“We are currently working diligently to find a new date during the upcoming awards season in which to host our annual gala in-person with everyone’s safety and health remaining our top priority,” the statement shared with the magazine continued.
