A dead body was discovered inside a container at Malibu Lagoon State Beach on Monday.

The body was found inside a 55-gallon drum around 10:30 a.m. ABC-7 reported that sanitation workers saw the drum in the water on Sunday night, but wanted to wait until morning to get it.

Los Angeles County Sergeant Chris Soderbergh said lifeguards brought the drum to the shore.

“When they brought it to shore, they opened and discovered a deceased person inside,” he said.

Details regarding the victim’s gender, identity, or cause of death has not been released at this time.

A beachgoer reportedly found the drum washed ashore with the body inside at about 10:27 a.m. near the 23200 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to the sheriff's department.
