Work crews have started the repavement process for portions of the 405 Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass.

Drivers are advised to avoid the 405 Freeway this weekend while crews work on the repavement project. There will be three lanes open in each direction starting at 10 p.m. Friday and lanes are expected to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

“If you can avoid the area, we strongly encourage you to do that,” Lauren Walike, with CalTrans, told KNX News’ Jon Baird. “There's going to be ramps in the area that are closed and so surface streets are going to be congested as well.”

There are going to be a total of 25 weekends when work is going to be done on the freeway. She said the weekend of Sept. 5-8 is going to be the second weekend of closures.

“The first weekend of paving work was August 22nd to the 25th,” she said.

There will be 23 more weekends to go over the course of the next year or so. Sections of lanes between Wilshire Boulevard and Victory Boulevard  are going to be repaved, Walike explained.
