DTLA, Burbank among areas that doubled rainfall records Tuesday

LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Southern California broke several rainfall records Tuesday following a powerful storm in the region. In Downtown Los Angeles the National Weather Service recorded 2.16 inches, more than doubling the the .96 record set in 1888.

Elsewhere in the region, communities around the Hollywood Burbank Airport also saw a rainfall record majorly broken — with 1.81 inches versus the 1965 record of .29.

While several winter storm warnings have been allowed to expire in L.A. and Ventura Counties, NWS warned Tuesday night that there was still a strong chance of snow showers "on north facing slopes, including I-5 near the Grapevine," with accumulations of up to one inch possible.

A satellite loop shared by the weather service showed which areas of the region had been coated by snow.

"Things are much calmer now," NWS said. "But we still have some larger waves over the coastal waters [Wednesday]."
