RIVERSIDE (CNS) - A 35-year-old motorist suspected of driving under the influence and causing a two-vehicle wreck that seriously injured a Riverside woman and a child was being held today on $50,000 bail.

Nicole Shawn Baccarella of Riverside was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail Thursday night on suspicion of DUI resulting in great bodily injury and being in possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Riverside police Sgt. Ryan Taack, about 7 p.m. Thursday, Baccarella was driving her Range Rover eastbound on Collett Avenue when she lost control while going through the intersection of Collett and Pierce Street.

Taack said the suspect ``crossed into the westbound lanes, striking a westbound 2007 Toyota Corolla.''

Riverside Fire Department paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and discovered the occupants of the Toyota, identified only as a 23- year-old woman and her 4-year-old relative, suffering from major injuries.

The victims were taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition, according to Taack. Other occupants in both vehicles suffered moderate injuries and were also hospitalized.

Baccarella was treated for minor injuries before being taken to jail. Taack alleged that tests showed she had been driving impaired.

Background information on the suspect was unavailable.
