Firefighters Monday worked to extinguish a fire in an abandoned commercial building in the Panorama City area that formerly housed a Montgomery Ward store.

The fire was reported in the 14600 block of West Roscoe Boulevard about 12:35 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The firefighters were in a "defensive mode" at the split-level building, which has been the site of previous fires, the LAFD reported.
