Former KNX Hero to bring the world of Oz to life in new production

Former KNX Hero of the Week Debora Wondercheck is paying it forward once again with the Arts and Learning Conservatory in Costa Mesa!

“We are excited to have featured in our brand new performing arts center, our first summer production for youth called ‘The Wizard of Oz,’” she told Heroes host Heather Jordan.

Wondercheck said that this production is hands-on.

“These kids are working with these professionals with the acting, the singing, dancing, creating props, but it's all state-of-the-art,” she said. “So we have this beautiful huge HD screen that's behind the students. So all of our sets, backdrops type-things are live and in motion behind the kids. You're going to be immersed into ‘The Wizard of Oz’ like never before.”

Her nonprofit, which was has been opened since 2004, serves thousands of kids all over Southern California with the purpose of making the arts equitable and accessible for kids of all backgrounds. Wondercheck said the conservatory has worked with 50 schools across Southern California this past year.

“We bring the same high quality that I was speaking of with our Wizard of Oz show in Costa Mesa,” she said. “We bring it to Compton. We bring it to L.A.  We take our programs to the kids right where they're at. We also have a scholarship for students who want to continue on with working with our professionals.”

She said it's all about paying it forward, providing opportunities for success, and seeing the light that shines after each performance.

“The Wizard of Oz” will be playing at the Borland Performing Arts Center from July 18th through the 20th. Tickets are $20.
