The I-10 Freeway is closed indefinitely after a fire caused damage Saturday morning.
L.A. Department of Transportation General Manager Laura Rubio Cornejo said they’re planning ahead. The department is also providing guidance to commuters.
“We're monitoring traffic and how people are actually responding to the detours in real time. We have officers out in the field that are also helping to monitor traffic and make sure that the flow of traffic continues,” she said.
The department started deploying traffic officers Sunday. They’ve also been out in the field as early as 6 a.m. Monday morning.
Rubio-Cornejo advises people to avoid taking the detours unless necessary and stay on the freeway until they get to their destination.
“We're also coordinating with Metro, making sure that our transit services are flowing and that they have the timing that they need in order to get folks to and from their destinations on public transportation,” she said.
It’s not known how long it will be before the I-10 Freeway is reopened. State and national officials said Monday that reopening the bridge as quickly and safely as possible is a top priority.
