The Irvine Police Department reported 34 residential burglaries over the course of 35 days. Suspects in these burglaries are seen “knocking down or disabling cameras,” as well as entering homes by climbing to the second story and using a window or door.
Cash and jewelry are often the targeted items in these burglaries.
According to the Orange County Registrar, the burglaries are similar to the “tourism burglaries” that police said are happening across the county. In those burglaries, the suspects look at homes in affluent areas and return later when no one is home and break in.
Homeowners have been encouraged by police to take various precautions, including installing security film on glass doors and windows, installing a security system and camera system, and using a sliding window lock.
