As a songwriter, his end goal isn’t always crafting the next Modest Mouse hit. Sometimes, he makes music as an outlet to take care of his mental health.

“The state of mind or mood I’m in influences my music because sometimes I’ll utilize it to get out of the state of mind or mood I’m in, or, just to hammer out issues as a way to see if I have any answers without having to overthink it,” Brock says.

“A lot of times it works that way where I just ramble and spit stuff out, and there was the answer I was looking for.”

Audacy's I’m Listening initiative aims to encourage those who are dealing with mental health issues to understand they are not alone. If you or anyone you know is struggling with depression or anxiety, know that someone is always there. Additionally, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-273-8255.
