LOS ANGELES (KNX) — In a bid to offer more job opportunities for Angelenos, Mayor Eric Garcetti has announced "Global LA," a public-private partnership to attract sustainable, inclusive and job creating international opportunities to the region.

“Los Angeles is a global crossroads — there is simply no better place to start or expand a business than here,” Garcetti said in a statement.

“By making it easier for companies, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs to invest in our city, Global LA will attract international opportunities that benefit Angelenos across our city with good paying jobs and a more resilient, inclusive local economy.”

Garcetti said the nonprofit will coordinate with the city and its stakeholders to promote L.A. to the world — leading up to and going on after the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Already, business leaders are excited about the program's launch.

“[Global LA is] a dedicated effort to build L.A.'s global reputation for international business, promote incentives like the State's CalCompetes program, and attract international opportunities that create quality jobs in California," Dee Dee Myers, Director of GO-Biz said.

Myers added that already at least one company has already established headquarters in L.A. - which is just one example the type of investment and jobs "that we can bring to the state when we work together," Myers said.

Global LA is a membership-funded organization with an initial City commitment of $500,000 allocated from the 2021-22 Justice Budget, according to Garcetti's office.

The nonprofit's membership base includes The Walt Disney Company, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, City National Bank, East West Bank and the Los Angeles Football Club, among others.
