The founder of a Los Angeles County animal welfare organization was charged with plotting the kidnapping of a former co-worker.

Leo Grillo, who founded the Dedication and Everlasting Love to Animals Rescue in Acton, was arrested and charged on Tuesday with the attempted kidnapping of a woman who used to work for him and sued him for more than $6 million.

According to the  U.S. Attorney's Office, Grillo reportedly paid $120,000 for someone to kidnap the woman and her husband for ransom in retaliation for the lawsuit; however, the person he hired was working for law enforcement.

If convicted, Grillo faces up to 20 years in prison.
