There is major blow back against an idea to house the homeless (at least temporarily) at some local beaches.
Roughly 5,000 people have already signed a petition against the proposal which would have the homeless being housed in campsites or tiny homes here at Will Rogers Beach Dockweiler and at Fisherman’s Village in Marina Del Rey.
One man spoke to KNX and said that the homeless have to live somewhere but he’s worried they’d be here indefinitely.
Others think that housing the homeless at the beach is a great idea.
LA City Councilman Mike Bonin says it’s crucial they take action.
"To end homelessness and sidewalk encampments, we need more housing, more shelter, and more services," Bonin told FOX-11. "We need all kinds of solutions — and we need them everywhere we can put them."
His motion asks the city’s administrative officer to see if the plan is feasible and what it would cost.
Bonin's proposal includes funding that would house homeless in various situations:
A temporary site for single-occupancy tiny homes or safe camping at the county-owned parking lot at Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades.
A temporary site for single-occupancy tiny homes, safe camping or safe parking site at the county-owned parking lot #3 at Dockweiler Beach.
A temporary site specifically for RV safe parking located at the county-owned RV park at Dockweiler Beach.
A temporary site for single-occupancy tiny homes or safe camping at the county-owned parking lot at Fisherman's Village in Marina del Rey.
