Fire crews were called at 3:03 a.m. to 1548 Chia Way, south of Eagle Rock Boulevard, where they found the building fully involved with fire, said LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.

To ensure firefighter safety, the LAFD fought the blaze from outside the building from a defensive posture.

Several apartment buildings were exposed to the flames and strategic evacuations done for the residents' safety, Lantz said.

It took over 140 firefighters two hours and four minutes to extinguish the flames.

No injuries were reported and fire companies remained at the scene for overhaul duties, Lantz said.
