MONTEREY PARK (KNX) — The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced Thursday a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who killed a young father in Hacienda Heights this May.
Alfonso Guzman, Jr. was shot to death and his girlfriend wounded around 1 a.m. on May 21, while the couple was parked at an outlook point near the 3300 block of Turnbull Canyon Road, investigators said.

“During that time there was at least one other vehicle parked in the area when they arrived,” Lt. Chuck Calderaro said Thursday.
“While they were there — without any notice — the suspect exited the vehicle that was parked there...approached Alfonso’s vehicle and shot him without warning.”
Guzman, a 26-year-old father of two, was pronounced dead at the scene. His girlfriend, who was in the driver’s seat, was taken to the hospital where she survived her injuries.
In a press conference Thursday, Guzman's cousin Laura described him as a loving father to his 5 and 9-year-old sons, who worked 10-12 hour shifts a day and was also enrolled in night classes.
"It’s been six months, but I still sometimes wish that he’ll come home - just the same way he always did," Laura said. "[He was] someone that was well respected, loved even by neighbors, the community...someone that always brought joy to us...he was a wonderful person."

LASD released a sketch of the suspect, who is described as being a white or Hispanic man, with a tattoo on his face near his right eye.
Anyone with information is asked to call the LASD Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. A cash reward for $10,000 will be given to whomever provides information leading to the arrest of Guzman’s killer.
