Flight cancellations continued to rise on Tuesday, going up from four percent to six percent, with more expected on Friday. The cancellations are part of an FAA order amid the government shutdown.

KNX News’ Jon Baird spoke with travelers at LAX about whether or not they were concerned about their flights.

Keith, who was heading to New Jersey, told Baird he’s not losing sleep over the possibility of his return flight being scrubbed.

“I think they're prioritizing safety over convenience,” he said. “I'll take a canceled flight over a crashed flight.”

Colton from San Diego also said he wasn’t fazed by the spike in cancellations.

“They'll figure it out,” he said. “We got some smart people in charge on both sides. I don't really worry about too much. I mean, I'm living. So what's there to worry about? We're not in Gaza right now. We're not in Ukraine, so this is nothing.”

But Marshall, who was flying home to Portland, Maine, said he had some concerns.

“So, two flights so far.  United says everything's on time, so I feel OK about that going from here to Washington,” he said. “My worry would probably be the Washington to Maine flight because it's a smaller flight. It's not a big jet, so we'll have to see what happens. But so far they have not said they changed the aircraft apparently last night. I have to get a new seat, but other than that, they still say it's on time.”

The FAA said the flight reductions were necessary to keep travelers safe because of a shortage of air traffic controllers.
