A man was arrested after authorities say his 17-month-old son was found unconscious at a motel in South Los Angeles.

According to ABC 7, 23-year-old Shane Flowers was arrested on Wednesday.

Los Angeles police responded Tuesday morning to the Rosa Bell Motel at Western Avenue after it was reported that a child was found unconscious and not breathing. The child, identified as Dee'ago Alexander Jones, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The baby's mother, Ryanna Jones, told ABC 7 that Flowers was violent towards the baby in the past.

Jones told the news station she didn't know why Flowers "would run from this situation and just leave us there, and not come back."

"He didn't even call to make sure her was even alive or OK," Jones told the station. "I just want him put away. I want him to get caught."

She said the family of three was living at the motel as part of a shelter program for homeless families with children.

Flowers' bail was set at $100,000, according to NBC Los Angeles. His arraignment will be held Friday.

The child's cause of death is pending.
