Man critically injured in DTLA shooting; suspect in custody

A suspect is in police custody Thursday after a shooting near downtown Los Angeles that left one man in critical condition.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded at approximately 10:44 p.m. Wednesday to Figueroa Street and Venice Boulevard regarding a shooting. When they arrived at the scene, the officers learned the suspect had approached the victim and attempted to rob him, LAPD Officer Charles Miller told City News Service.

The victim refused to give the suspect his property and the suspect drew a gun, shot him in the chest area and ran away, police said. Officers captured the suspect near Venice and Flower Street and arrested him, Miller said.

The victim was taken to a hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics in critical condition.

A gun that police believed was used in the shooting was recovered at the scene, Miller said
