A 41-year-old man accused of killing a woman waiting at a Jurupa Valley Park & Ride, as well as shooting and wounding another motorist, then fleeing into San Bernardino County, where he was apprehended, was being held without bail Thursday.

Louis Peter Hernandez was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Fontana Sunday morning on suspicion of murder.

According to the California Highway Patrol, shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday, the suspect allegedly opened fire on a woman waiting in her 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix at the Mission Boulevard Park & Ride in the 11000 block of Mission.

CHP Officer Javier Navarro said the victim, whose name was not released, died at the scene. A man sitting in his 2003 Nissan Altima was also struck by the gunfire, suffering a non-life-threatening wound.

He was taken to a Riverside hospital for treatment.

Witnesses called 911, and Hernandez "fled the scene and jumped into the bed of a pickup truck, which was stopped at a red light," Navarro said.

"The driver drove away from the scene to Ontario, and once he stopped, the suspect exited the bed of the truck," the CHP spokesman said. "The driver of the pickup continued driving and immediately dialed 911 to report the incident."

Ontario police units converged on the location within minutes and took Hernandez into custody without incident, according to Navarro.

The suspect was wanted for unrelated offenses in San Bernardino County.

A possible motive for the alleged attack at the Park & Ride was not provided.

According to jail records, Hernandez is slated to make an appearance on Dec. 4 at the Rancho Cucamonga District of San Bernardino County Superior Court.

Anyone with information about the Jurupa Valley shooting was asked to contact the Riverside CHP office at 951-637-8000.
