The artist behind the iconic murals of Shohei Ohtani and Fernando Valenzuela is back at it with a new artwork in Altadena.
Since the Eaton Fire, Fair Oaks Burger has been a gathering place for the ravaged community. Despite closing due to damage from the fire, the restaurant’s owners have been providing food for those in need from the parking lot.
“If mom’s too tired to make dinner, we’re there for them,” co-owner Janet Lee told KNX News’ Karen Adams. “We’ve been part of this community for forever, you know, my little sister grew up here, so it’s family.”
Muralist Robert Vargas said he was inspired to create something that celebrates the Altadena community and “champions their resiliency.” Painting it on the side of Fair Oaks Burger was a natural choice.
“I just found it really inspiring how they were using their space as a rallying point, meeting point, giving away produce every week, and even though they weren't open for business, they were still kind of this beacon in the area,” he said.
