OC Protests, an Orange County organization created and run by local BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and persons of color) women, will be hosting a Juneteenth event in Anaheim's La Palma Park on Saturday.

Juneteenth celebrates the day when the last enslaved people in chattel slavery states in America, including Texas, received news of their freedom. On Thursday, President Joe Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday.

“This is a day of profound weight and profound power, a day in which we remember the moral stain, the terrible toll that slavery took on the country and continues to take,” Biden said, according to reporting by the Associated Press.

Various organizations and vendors will be at tabling Saturday’s event. Organizers will be speaking on social issues such as police brutality.

Local Anaheim band, Weapons of Mass Destruction, will perform. There will also be games to raise money for mutual aid in Orange County.

The event will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
