Officers fatally shoot suspect in Pomona

A suspect was fatally shot by officers from the Pomona Police Department and an investigation into the shooting was underway Wednesday.

The shooting occurred at 11:57 p.m. Tuesday and Pomona police officers responded to the intersection of North Hamilton Boulevard and West Center Street to a hotel regarding a man with a gun, said sheriff's homicide Lt. Michael Modica.

The suspect ran away from the officers, drew a gun and officers opened fire on the man, who was struck by gunfire, Modica told reporters.

The suspect was taken to Pomona Valley Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

A firearm was recovered at the scene and no officers were injured, the Pomona PD reported.

Homicide investigators from the sheriff's department are assisting the Pomona police with the shooting investigation.
