California Highway Patrol officers were called at 1:46 a.m. to the southbound freeway and the Rosecrans Avenue exit where they found the damaged Tahoe and the pedestrian on the Rosecrans on-ramp, CHP Officer Sean Lough told City News Service.
The pedestrian, whose name, gender and age were not immediately known, was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel.
Traffic was diverted to the Imperial Highway exit after the CHP closed the Rosecrans exit.
