Officers from the LAPD's Southwest Division were in pursuit of the suspect before the chase ended at Crenshaw Boulevard south of Vernon Avenue where officers crashed into a sedan at 8:20 p.m. Monday, according to the LAPD.

Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters arrived a short time later to the 4300 block of South Crenshaw Boulevard to conduct a rescue operation. Two people involved in the crash had to be extricated from a red sedan, according to LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

The 30-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition and four others were also taken to a hospital, Stewart said.

The condition of the officers were not immediately known, ABC 7 reported.

Aerial news footage appeared to show a burned police car at the scene.

There was no suspect or vehicle description. The suspect escaped during the pursuit and is still on the loose.
