LOS ANGELES (KNX) - A man has been arrested in connection to a series of Fairfax area arsons across May and June.

Delano Thompson, 34, was arrested Wednesday and charged with eight counts of arson. The fires involved cars, property, and buildings, including one blaze at the Bais Chana Heritage School, a Jewish high school.

Detectives say the motive for the crimes is currently unknown, but there’s no evidence the arson at the school was a hate incident.

Thompson’s arrest is the result of a combined operation led by the LAPD’s Major Crimes Division and LAFD arson investigators. Using security footage and other evidence, investigators identified a specific vehicle involved in many of the fires, Detective Roger Allen said.

Thompson was pulled over for speeding on Wednesday night, officials said. When the officers ran his license plate, they discovered that his vehicle was allegedly tied to the fires.

Thompson has a history of burglary, property crimes, and other offenses, but no prior arrests for arson, detectives said.

This marks the 52nd suspected arsonist arrested in Los Angeles in the past six months, according to LAFD Captain Erik Scott.
