A pursuit of multiple suspects in a dark-colored sedan ended with a dramatic crash in the Koreatown area Thursday when the suspects' vehicle slammed into another car, sending both spinning out of control and coming to a stop on adjacent sidewalks.

At least one of the suspects -- believed to have been the driver -- was injured and taken to a hospital in unknown condition. A woman driving the vehicle that was struck was also taken to a hospital, also in unknown condition.

Deputies from the Marina del Rey Sheriff's Station originally initiated the pursuit but later terminated the chase, which was taken over by the Los Angeles Police Department, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. It was unclear if the LAPD was actively pursuing the vehicle when the crash occurred, or if the agency was tracking the suspects from a helicopter.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was driving at speeds topping 80 mph along Fifth Street when the vehicle slammed into the side of a white vehicle on Wilton Place. The white vehicle went into a violent spin, sending the car onto a sidewalk and into the corner of a building.

The suspects' vehicle also veered out of control and came to a rest on the sidewalk, pressed against a parked car.

A passenger in the suspect vehicle got out and ran from the scene, but was apparently taken into a custody a short time later. The driver had to be pulled out of the vehicle by officers.

KNX News' Pete Demetriou reported from the scene that a total of three suspects were taken into custody, and a weapon was recovered from the car. The station reported that both the injured suspect and the woman driving the car that was struck were taken to hospitals.

It was unclear what initially prompted the chase, or if the suspects' vehicle was stolen. Some media reports suggested the suspects were wanted on suspicion of robbery.
