A small plane made an emergency landing in Long Beach late Tuesday afternoon.

The plane landed on a field in Heartwell Park along Carson Street, City News Service reported.

Gary Smith, who heard the plane go over his house, told KNX News he and his neighbor were outside in the driveway when it happened.

“I'm very familiar with all the different kinds of planes, and this canard-type plane came over the house so low I thought it was going to hit my neighbor's two-story house,” he said. “It didn't sound like it had a motor.”

Smith said he believes the plane went down in the Hartwell Park area.

No word yet on what forced the plane to make that landing just northeast of Long Beach Airport.
