Authorities Friday sought the public's help to find a motorist responsible for seriously injuring a sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop in West Hollywood.

Deputies were trying to stop the Gray, 2022 Dodge Challenger about 4:35 p.m. Thursday near Hilldale Avenue and Cynthia Street, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported.

"However, the vehicle tried to evade the responding deputies," the sheriff's department said in a statement.

"As the suspect vehicle drove past the deputies, the vehicle hit the open passenger door of a patrol vehicle, striking the deputy with the door, causing serious injury to the deputy," the statement said. "The suspect vehicle then drove away at a high rate of speed and out of view."

The Dodge had a Nevada license plate number 802-W31, according to the sheriff's department.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau at 562-946-7893, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
